Fireworks! Those sparkly, glowing bursts in the sky, and one of the best parts of summer! This simple craft allows even young kids to create their own glowing fireworks!
All you need to make these little Glow in the Dark Beaded Fireworks are glow in the dark pony beads (ours were kindly provided by CraftProjectIdeas.com), pipe cleaners, and fishing line.
To start with you have to shape your fireworks from three pipe cleaners. To do this wrap two of the pipe cleaners around the center of the third pipe cleaner. Now you should have six spokes intersecting in the middle.
Take each of these spokes and curve them to form what my kids decided looked like a six legged spider.
Now the glow in the dark pony beads can be threaded onto each of the “spider’s legs.” We found since each of the beads glows it’s color the fireworks look best when a pattern or solid color is used. Of course random beads will just give a more abstract firework!
While adding the beads be sure to leave a small area at the end of each “leg” to fold over in order to keep the beads in place! Fold the excess pipe cleaner over and wrap it around itself to secure the beads.
Once the beads are safely on the pipe cleaner, you can flip your firework over and add fishing line to hang it! The easiest way to get it to hang reasonably flat is to attach the fishing line to two of the legs opposite each other at the point you want to be the highest.
Hang up your fireworks, flip off the light, and admire their glow! These will last all season too instead of just a few seconds!
