Believe it or not when I woke up one morning determined to make bacon cinnamon rolls I did not envision that this was how they were going to turn out.  Like at all.  It’s obvious now that I don’t eat the refrigerated cinnamon rolls often enough to understand what they really look like.  Lesson learned.  Luckily for all of us my improvisation {aka stubborn desire for bacon + cinnamon roll} still turned out perfectly delicious.

Originally I was hoping to unroll a carefully rolled cinnamon roll and roll it back up with bacon inside alas that is not how they come out of the packaging.  But not to be deterred from cinnamony bacony deliciousness I improvised.  Instead of rolling the bacon inside the cinnamon roll I chopped it into little pieces and pressed it into the dough on top then added some more into the maple cream cheese frosting.  Because if the question is more bacon the answer is always YES!

This is a super simple breakfast that the kiddos can help with or even make all on their own!  Provided they’re old enough to use the oven, of course.  If you prefer to make your own cinnamon roll dough, no hard feelings.  My friend Nicole has a great recipe for cinnamon roll dough in the bread machine that turns out great every time 🙂  And if you make your own cinnamon rolls then you can actually roll them up instead of settling for a bacon topping.

You can make more or your own cream cheese frosting entirely but I just used the little bit that came with the rolls.  Adding more small pieces of bacon and some maple syrup to bring it all together.  It was a win.  Because they were half gone in about 5 minutes.  Maybe less.
