Welcome and thank you for stopping by to see how my family was inspired by the Always Remember ornament by Ruth Donikowski for the May 2015 Featured Artist for the Hallmark Keepsake Ornament Club. This fun family hands-on craft focuses on making memories, just like the artist was inspired to create this ornament about. We like to make great memories in our home I used this ornament as the inspiration to create this hands-on project as we learn about Ruth Donikowski as an ornament artist as part of the Exploring Hallmark Keepsake Ornament Artist Series for the May 2015 monthly Featured Keepsake Ornament Artist.

Family Summer Memories Table Runner

We are a family that share a lot together. As homeschoolers we also tend to be around and with each other a lot. During the summer we take short trips, meet friends and family, and generally have as much fun as the next family. In the day and age of Instagram and Facebook, we do like to take photos and share, but there are also a lot of times we just want to remember the fun times we had with family and friends too. This got me thinking, why not make something to remember all the fun times and events we have this summer with a fun craft too?

Materials Needed:

To make your own Always Remember themed DIY Family Summer Memories Table Runner craft for this month’s Featured Keepsake Ornament Artist  you will need the following materials and supplies:

DIY Family Summer Memories Table Runner

To start your DIY Family Summer Memories Table Runner you need to select the size of table runner you wish to use and cut that length out of the burlap ribbon. I decided to use about a four foot length for ours. Carefully fold the tips of each end back on themselves and use a small dot of hot glue on the underside flap to glue the two pieces of the triangle together into a point.

Next, paint your seashells however you and your children or students want to. I tried to use a standard length of a table runner, so we used 9 seashells. You can use as many or as few as you wish. Elizabeth really had fun with her painting of shells. She chose to use gold, green, blue, and red. We used Martha Stewart Glitter Acrylic Paints to test them out and I was very happy with the color and glitter patterns they made on the seashells when the paint dried.

Once the paint is dry, use hot glue to attach a short piece of twine, in a circle, to the back of each seashell.

Then, tie a cardboard gift tag to each twine circle with a small piece of baker’s twine. Once that is tied, use a small dot of hot glue to attach the twine circle to your table runner edge. Be sure to space your seashells out however you wish along your table runner’s edges. We used the top and bottom edges in ours.

To make the year in puffy paint, select whatever colors you wish. We used green and blue for the ocean theme. Then, select a portion of your runner that you wish to put the year on and cut a piece of wax paper to fit that area. Then, put your wax paper aside and draw the year on that wax paper in puffy paint and allow it to dry. Once it dries you can peel it off the wax paper and use a small amount of craft glue to attach the year to your burlap runner.
