Lots of kids like to learn about dinosaurs. There are so many different types from the favorite tyrannosaurus rex to stegosaurs and more, but do you know if a plesiosaur is a dinosaur or not? I did not even know what a plesiosaur was, but after getting a copy of the new Dino Dan: Swimming with Dinosaurs DVD from NCircle Entertainment I had a fun idea on how to see if one was a dinosaur. I came up with a really fun hands-on sensory activity to help teach and learn about the Plesiosaur to answer this question.
Before I get much further into this review, giveaway, and hands-on sensory activity, I would like to say that I was given a free copy of the DVD to assist in this review by NCircle Entertainment. For full details, please read my disclosures found HERE.
In this new DVD from NCircle Entertainment we once again follow the dinosaur hunting and exploring fun of the junior expert Trek Henderson. In his latest DVD, Dino Dan: Swimming with Dinosaurs he imagines dinosaurs into the real world. These eight new adventures include some of the coolest dinosaurs that he has encountered. The fun new dinosaurs that this 90 minute DVD includes are:
- Beach Blanket Dino
- Dino Pet Store
- Dino Sightseeing
- Everyone Loves Marine Reptiles
- Officer Trek
- Saber Tooth Doug
- Swimming with Plesiosaurs
- Teach a Spino to Fish
There is a lot of new dinosaur learning and exploring fun in this DVD. Whether or not you knew about these fun and strange dinosaurs already, this DVD is still full of great adventures, dinosaur facts, and much more! With that in mind I wanted to bring some of it to life in full sensory activity fashion for Elizabeth and Beck. Here is what I came up with themed to the episode of Swimming with Plesiosaurs…
To make this fun and unique Diving with a Plesiosaur sensory activity you will need the following materials:
- My FREE Diving with a Plesiosaur Sensory Activity (See Below)
- Sensory Bin (this is what we use for a sensory bin)
- Blue Sensory Water Beads
- Ping-Pong Ball
Start by preparing the water beads by following the water bead package instructions. Then, once the remaining materials are assembled (you can print the printable instantly below). Cut out all the pieces. Then, make the true/false cards following the instructions and laminate all the pieces.
Then you will need to make your plesiosaur. To do this, use tape and the ping pong ball to make a floating plesiosaur. Make sure to tape the two different sides of the plesiosaur to the opposite sides of the ping pong ball. Once you have made yours, it is time to set-up your sensory activity. This sensory activity is easy to set-up by placing the true/false cards at the bottom of the sensory activity bin under all the water beads.
To learn and play with this fun sensory activity have your child or student watch the Swimming with Plesiosaurs episode. Then, have them move the plesiosaur around the water beads and dive into the water to catch the question cards. Once they have a card they can answer the questions to learn if a plesiosaur is a dinosaur or not. Remember, a plesiosaur has a long, stiff neck, so they dive deep and come up on their prey from below.
