Welcome and thank you for stopping by to see how my children were inspired by the Twas the Night Before Christmas Ornament by Edythe H Kegrize Pack for the December 2014 Featured Artist for the Hallmark Keepsake Ornament Club. We are learning about Edythe H Kegrize Pack as an ornament artist as part of the Exploring Hallmark Keepsake Ornament Artist Series for the December 2014 monthly Featured Keepsake Ornament Artist.
Our family loves the Christmas storybook Twas the Night Before Christmas and read it multiple times per year, including on Christmas Eve. This ornament reminds us of those fun times because we love to read this storybook as a family. After learning about this ornament for this month’s Featured Keepsake Ornament Artist ornament, it was time to try our own hand at making our own version of this exciting Hallmark Keepsake Ornament. There are many ways to make your own version of this ornament, but here are the materials and methods that my daughter Elizabeth, son Beck, and I used as we made our own Edythe H Kegrize Pack inspired ornaments.
To make your own Twas the Night Before Christmas themed ornament for this month’s Featured Keepsake Ornament Artist you will need the following materials:
- December 2014 Edythe H Kegrize Hands On Art Project Pack
- White Foam
- Fiskars Scissors
- Metallic Puffy Paint
- Craft glue
- Ornament Hook
- Alligator Clips
Start by printing out the ornament template from the pack. Cut out both templates carefully. Use the one with the bag on the left as a template and cut as many ‘pages’ out of regular paper to use on the inside of your ornament.
Then, use craft glue to attach the covers to White Foam and allow them to dry. While the glue is drying, add some metallic puffy paint paint to accent your ornament. We used white for the hat ball and yellow for the rope on the bag. Once dry, cut them out carefully using Fiskars Scissors.
Allow your child or students to write their own version of Twas the Night Before Christmas on the pages that you cut out of regular paper.
Once they are done with their version of the story, staple all the sheets together. Turn over the ‘back cover of your ornament and apply craft glue to the left side to make the binding.
Carefully stack your child or student’s pages on top of the glue and apply more glue to the top. Then carefully layer the ornament cover on top of the pages. Use alligator clips to carefully clip it all together. Then, apply some more craft glue to the edge to make a binding. Allow it all to fully dry.
Lastly, fill out the December 2014 Edythe H Kegrize Pack Project Tag and attached it to the back of our ornament with an ornament hook by carefully poking it through the top of the back side cover’s Santa hat. This will make it the perfect addition to your Christmas tree this holiday season or to give as a gift to a family member or friend!
