We are always looking for fun ways to have slow days go by faster. I thought it was time to show the pom pom throwing. This is an easy activity and pompoms are easy to find just about anywhere. I love to keep them around just for activities just like this! We had fun doing these and we will doing them many times again.
One reason I like doing these is your get the repeat motion of gross motor throwing and fine motor with picking up the small pompoms.
A tape line was put on the floor so they knew where they had to throw from. The egg cartons were placed on the floor about 3 to 4 feet away.
They started throwing the pompoms underhand. As they threw we talked about which size of pompom was easier: small, medium or large. My oldest had the easiest time with underhand.
Next we did some overhand throwing of the pompoms. We talked about size same as before. My younger two girls had a much easier time getting the pompoms to the egg cartons.
We noted that with the underhand the pompoms were in front of the egg carton and overhand they were mostly behind the egg cartons. We talked about who liked which way to throw better. For the last part of the throwing we did some some throwing as many as they could at one time!
The next challenge for the pompom activities was to walk the tape line and have the pompom on a spoon. As they walked each had their own way of doing the challenge. One walked fast to get it over with, one wanted to see how many she could carry and not drop and one wanted to take their time and not rush. They enjoyed the challenge and loved doing it.
This is easy and fun. To see something else we did with these pompoms check out the Pompom Paper Roll Catapult!
