Hello everyone and welcome to the home of the Poppins Book Nook monthly themed virtual book club for kids! Can you believe that the first year of the Poppins Book Nook is almost over? My, how time truly does fly when you are having fun! The goal of the Poppins Book Nook is to make reading supercalifragilisticexpialidocious for children.
If you are asking yourself questions like: What is this book club? When is it? Can I join it? Is there a cost for it? These are all valid questions. To help answer all of these questions and more, the Poppins Book Nook is a wonderful and free monthly book club where a lot of your favorite bloggers and I will be taking a themed monthly topic and selecting any book that is appropriate to the theme. Meeting the last Monday of each calendar month (with the exception of December as we take a break for the holiday season to make memories with our families), we all present our book and something fun related to that book. The something that we will do is not planned out or coordinated or mapped out in advance, but rather it is simply up to the participant to reach into their bag of tricks (like Mary Poppins herself) and secrets and share something theme related for the book that they selected. The age range will also be selected by the participant bloggers, so it can range from Pre-K to 12th, the sky is the limit based on which participant blogger’s site you read.
If you are not a blogger and would like to participate all you need to do is comment on a participating co-hosts post. It’s as simple as that! We love hearing the storybooks our readers selected for the themes, crafts or learning activities that you did, and overall just love it when readers share their love for the literature in the world around us.
This year I am very excited to unveil for March 2014 a printable welcome kit for everyone who wants to follow along with the Poppins Book Nook. This interactive element and reading incentive will help to add a spoonful more fun each month for young children when they go to grab their book for this book club at your local library or book store.
As always, my goal for the Poppins Book Nook is to keep the themes flexible so that all families can participate using a book or author that peaks their child’s/children’s interest at their own age ranges. So without further ado, drum roll please … here are the themes for the upcoming year to look forward to:
All co-hosts for the next cycle of the Poppins Book Nook will be officially announced towards the end of February 2014.
