With winter upon us here we are working hard to do gross motor. I thought it would be fun to show you a letter activity for gross motor. We picked “S” for snowflakes! We have seen lots of snow.
First we did some S gross motor activities. These are animals or actions that start with the letter “S”.
Snake: crawling on their stomach.
Snail: crawling very slowly. This is harder than it looks.
Swan: Gentle flying in the air.
Swimming: kicking feet and moving arms out in front of you and then we did just kicking feet.
Stork: Standing on one leg, for younger kids you can give them a hand if they need it.
Sloth: laying on your back and pretend climb up a limb very slowly.
Seal: lifting upper body up and clapping hands with arms straight in front.
Shark: Swimming with arms in front.
Squid: Standing and wiggling back and forth.
After we finished the gross motor for the letter S. We made a tape S on the floor. They walked the S on the Floor.
They lined the “S” with snowflakes and walked on the snowflakes.
We took the scooter board with handles to our letter S. They sat on the board and used their legs to move them around forward and then backwards, laid on stomach and pushed with their feet and repeated with pulling forward with their arms.
The last thing we did was the hula hoop walking on the letter. They did one time of rolling the hula hoop on the letter and the next time through was stepping through the hula hoop walking on the letter.
