Every school year since we started homeschooling 5 years ago the kids and I set out to make a homeschool time capsule for each of them. I wanted to show Elizabeth and Beck how much they change just over the course of one school year. Here are the materials that I used:
- Small brown paper bag
- Index card
- Empty toilet paper roll
- Sticker, pens, glitter and so on
You can add any information or questions that you feel are relevant or will show change and growth throughout the school year. Here is a picture of the front side of the index card (can you guess which one of my kiddos this card belongs to?):
Here is a picture of the back side of the index card:
Allow time for your child to decorate the paper towel roll with pens, crayons, stickers, etc. Place the index card inside of the empty toilet paper roll.
Write on the paper bag “Do not open until the last day of school”. Place the empty toilet paper roll inside of the bag, close it and seal with a sticker. At the end of the school year you and your child can look at how they have changed (height, likes/dislikes, etc.). I have saved each and every one to give the kids when they are adults and have children of their own. Enjoy!
Don’t forget to include your child’s school year picture!
