Fall is by far my favorite season for oh so many reasons! I have always loved watching the leaves change colors, raking up a pile of leaves and watching the kids jump in it and going on hikes when the weather is cool enough to allow it. This fall I wanted to do a unit study for Beck and Elizabeth that is centered around leaves. I plan to use this unit 2 days a week in September until the unit study is completed.
In this unit your children will discover and learn about different types of leaves and how to distinguish them by name, color, shape, and size. Do you know why leaves are green? Do you know why leaves change color? Can you say what a leaf does for a plant? These are also questions that you will be able to answer as you work your way through this unit study.
In this 25+ page Unit Study you will find the following activities:
Language Arts: Vocabulary with a pocket chart, matching vocabulary words to their definitions, sentence fun, fall nouns and verbs, fall writing, L is for Leaf (ending sounds), leafy poetry, and more!
Science: Leaf knowledge, leaf observation, why leaves change color, simple and compound leaves, leaf diagrams, science experiment forms, capturing leaf vapor experiment, separating colors in a green leaf experiment, and more!
Social Studies / History / Geography: Using maps to locate where different types of trees can be found in the United States.
Leaf rubbing, tie dye coffee filter fall leaves, leaf printing, and more!
